Brampton South MP Sonia Sidhu announces $1.6 million to enhance tourism and community infrastructure

News Release – Brampton, Ontario  

The Government of Canada is committed to supporting tourism and community infrastructure in southern Ontario by ensuring local businesses, and the organizations that support them, have the tools they need to position themselves for a strong and resilient economic future.  

Today, on behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, announced a total combined investment of $1.6 mln to support 3 in Brampton South under the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) and the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF). 

The announcement was made at an event hosted by the City of Brampton, which is receiving a non-repayable contribution of $1.6 mln, under the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF)/Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), to the City of Brampton. 

In addition, Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South highlighted the effective results of the local investments through the My Main Street Project to the City of Brampton.  The City of Brampton was approved for a $945,000 non-repayable contribution through the My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program to support the revitalization of six main street communities in Brampton: Downtown, Mount Pleasant, Uptown, Kennedy Road (from Orenda Court to south of Glidden Road), Bramalea GO and Queen Street (Centre Street to 410, Dixie Road to Bramalea Road and Torbram Road to CN rail line).  

These six main street communities were supported by a dedicated Main Street Ambassador within the City’s Economic Development Office. As part of the program, the communities received customized market research, data analysis and non-repayable funding contributions to support new and existing small businesses. The program was delivered over two years and focused on creating and maintaining vibrant and inclusive local main streets while providing residents, new entrepreneurs, and existing businesses with economic opportunities in the main street communities
