Government of Canada’s bold new plan to rebuild, rearm, and reinvest in the Canadian Armed Forces was recently announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney in Toronto.
This landmark initiative will see Canada meet NATO’s 2 per cent defense spending target this year—five years ahead of schedule. The plan includes critical upgrades to military equipment, infrastructure, and personnel support, ensuring Canada is prepared to defend its sovereignty and contribute meaningfully to global peace and security.
“This is a pivotal moment for Canada,” said MP Sidhu. “In a world facing growing uncertainty, our government is taking decisive action to protect Canadians, support our Armed Forces, and invest in innovation and good jobs right here at home. Brampton families can be proud of Canada’s leadership on the world stage.”
Key measures in the plan includes better pay and improved recruitment and retention for Canadian Armed Forces personnel. Also, new aircraft, vehicles, and advanced surveillance technologies, including Arctic monitoring systems. In addition, expanded health care and support services for military members and veterans. Strengthening Canada’s defense industry, including investments in AI, cyber, and space technologies and integrating the Canadian Coast Guard into NATO operations to enhance maritime security.
This investment will also create new opportunities for Canadian businesses and workers, including those in Brampton’s growing tech and manufacturing sectors.
“We are not only strengthening our national defense,” added MP Sidhu, “we are also building a more resilient economy and a safer future for all Canadians.”
