Middle-Class Tax Cut Coming into Effect on Canada Day – Sonia Sidhu

As Canadians prepare to celebrate Canada Day, Member of Parliament Sonia Sidhu is highlighting a major step forward for families in Brampton and across the country. Starting July 1st, the federal government’s new middle-class tax cut is officially into effect—delivering real savings for millions of Canadians.

The tax cut, announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney, will save a typical two-income family up to $840 per year and benefit 22 million Canadians. This is part of the government’s commitment to make life more affordable and ensure that hardworking families can keep more of their paycheques.

“Families in Brampton have been clear—they want a government that puts them first,” said MP Sonia Sidhu. “This tax cut is a direct response to that call. It means more money in the pockets of parents, workers, and seniors. It’s about fairness, and it’s about building a stronger, more inclusive economy.” The government’s broader plan includes reducing costs, keeping communities safe, diversifying trade, and building one strong Canadian economy—the most resilient in the G7.

Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized the importance of this change, stating: “Canada’s new government has a mandate for change, including cutting taxes for the middle class and bringing down costs. With our middle-class tax cut in effect tomorrow, families will save up to $840 and keep more of what they earn.”

MP Sidhu added, “This is just the beginning. I will continue working hard to ensure Brampton families see the benefits of a government that listens and delivers.”
