Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced key measures from the upcoming federal Budget aimed at lowering costs and helping Canadians get ahead. MP Sonia Sidhu highlights these bold steps to make life more affordable and ensure essential supports reach those who need them most. The Key highlights include:
- Automatic federal benefits starting in 2026 to help up to 5.5 million low-income Canadians access credits and supports they qualify for.
- Permanent National School Food Program to provide healthy meals to up to 400,000 children, saving families up to $800 annually.
- Renewal of the Canada Strong Pass for the holidays and summer 2026, offering free or discounted access to museums, parks, and VIA Rail travel for young Canadians.
“These measures reflect our government’s commitment to responsible choices that put Canadians first,” said MP Sidhu. “By reducing costs and expanding access to vital programs, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive Canada.”
Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized: “Our Budget will build a stronger Canada. It is a plan to protect our communities and our country and invest in the major projects that will build our economy. It will empower Canadians by helping you get ahead, bringing down your costs, and making your life more affordable. We cannot control what other nations do. We control what we choose to build. We are building Canada Strong.”
These new initiatives build on recent actions including the cancellation of the consumer carbon tax, middle-class tax cuts, and the removal of GST for first-time homebuyers.
