MP Sonia Sidhu Hosts 5th Annual World Diabetes Day Flag-Raising Ceremony at Brampton City Hall

Today, Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, hosted the 5th Annual World Diabetes Day Flag-Raising Ceremony at Brampton City
Hall to mark World Diabetes Day and Diabetes Awareness Month.

The ceremony brought together federal, municipal, and community leaders, local organizations, and residents to raise awareness about diabetes prevention, management, and research. The
blue circle flag — the global symbol for diabetes awareness — was raised in solidarity with millions of Canadians living with diabetes.

MP Sidhu has been a national leader in the fight against diabetes. Her Private Member’s Bill C-237, An Act to Establish a National Framework for Diabetes, became law in 2021 and laid the
foundation for Canada’s first-ever national diabetes framework. This landmark initiative helped shape federal health policy and paved the way for the creation of National Pharmacare, which
ensures that essential diabetes medications and supplies are free for all Canadians. Through these efforts, the federal government continues to work with provinces, territories, and partners
to promote healthier living, improve access to care, and support ongoing research and innovation.

“World Diabetes Day is a reminder that together, we can make a difference for the millions of Canadians affected by diabetes,” said MP Sidhu. “As we raise the blue circle flag in Brampton,
we also raise awareness, hope, and our commitment to a healthier future for all.”

World Diabetes Day is observed globally on November 14, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, the Canadian co-discoverer of insulin.
