The Government of Canada is taking bold action to address the housing crisis through Build Canada Homes, a new federal agency dedicated to building and financing affordable housing at scale while driving innovation in the homebuilding industry.
In just 100 days since its launch, Build Canada Homes has delivered measurable progress:
- Thousands of affordable homes committed, with shovels hitting the ground this year.
- Six federal land projects advancing toward construction, prioritizing modular and factory-built methods to speed up delivery.
- Landmark agreements signed with provinces and municipalities, unlocking new housing opportunities across Canada.
This new approach is focused on speed, collaboration, and innovation; which is turning ambition into action.
Key Highlights:
- Up to 4,000 Direct Build units on federal lands in major cities, including Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Longueuil, and Dartmouth.
- Partnership with the City of Ottawa to accelerate up to 3,000 new homes through streamlined approvals and financing.
- Up to 1,430 homes in Nova Scotia, including supportive and below-market units.
Build Canada Homes is moving quickly from interest to investment, with hundreds of proposals under review and a robust pipeline of projects ready to break ground in 2026.
