60% of all testing in Canada to be done in Brampton

Brampton, ON – Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, represented the Federal Government at the grand opening of the Canadian Blood Services new testing laboratory in Brampton. The new 28,000 square-foot laboratory will be part of the Canadian Blood Services blood production and distribution center in Brampton.

“Thanks to this new laboratory, 60% of testing in Canada will be done right here in Brampton,” said MP Sidhu. “Brampton has always been a city of innovation and I am always happy to see organizations like the Canadian Blood Services set up shop here. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those that donate blood – your efforts and commitment help save lives all across Canada”.

With the initial building phase starting in January 2016, the now completed facility will employ 90 people, bringing more high-quality jobs to Brampton. The facility will integrates donor testing, diagnostic services, and quality control functions, in addition to reduces costs for pickup of biomedical waste and decontamination of the nucleic acid testing.

“I’ve had the opportunity to discuss health issues with Dr. Graham Sher, the CEO of Canadian Blood Services, previously during my work in Health Committee,” added MP Sidhu. “I was happy to see him in Brampton for the grand opening ceremony.”

MP Sidhu is a member of the Standing Committee on Health, the Chair of the All-Party Diabetes Caucus. The Canadian Blood Services manages the national supply of blood, blood products and stem cells, and related services for all the provinces and territories (excluding Quebec).
