Brampton, ON – May 27th to June 2nd is National AccessAbility Week and Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, celebrated by letting constituents know that the Federal Government has invested $23,204 to date under the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) for projects in her riding.

Some of the projects in Brampton South include over $5,600 for new accessibility equipment in Brampton Library’s Four Corners Branch, and over $7,800 for lighting and technology improvements at Grace Place.

The EAF provides funding for eligible capital projects that increase accessibility for people with disabilities in Canadian communities and workplaces, creating more opportunities for them to participate in community activities, programs and services, or access employment opportunities.

“Canada is at its best when those with disabilities are given the opportunities to fully contribute to their communities and workplaces” said MP Sidhu. “National AccessAbility Week is a time when we can bring inclusion and accessibility to the forefront and celebrate the progress Canadians have made in breaking down barriers”.

Canada has made great strides in fostering an inclusive society for people with disabilities but there is still work to be done. The Government of Canada will take an important step by introducing accessibility legislation that will help eliminate barriers that people with disabilities still face in sectors under federal jurisdiction.

Applications for the Enabling Accessibility Fund for small projects are now being accepted from eligible applicants interested in receiving grant funding up to $100,000. MP Sidhu encourages those eligible to apply and reminds applicants that they have until July 26th to submit their applications.
