Residents of Peel face a range of long-term health conditions, from diabetes and mental illness to childhood obesity. These diseases pose a serious challenge to patients and to the Canadian health care system, and new solutions are needed.

That’s why today, I was proud to announce an investment from the Government of Canada, through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, of $9.3 million while visiting St. Michael’s Hospital, where three of the research projects will be based.

The program, known as the Innovative Clinical Trials Initiative, will include additional funding of $13.3 million from partners, for a total investment of $22.6 million.

Both Childhood Obesity and Diabetes are issues here in our community. The funding announced today will mean new treatments developed right here in Canada to help people suffering in our community and across the country. Combined with our government’s plan to promote healthy eating, and other funding to combat Diabetes and other diseases, we are working to ensure that all Bramptonians can live healthy lives.

Our commitment to delivering quality healthcare is just one of the ways that we are delivering real change for Brampton
$13.2 Billion in Funding for Affordable Housing.
