The Region of Peel to receive Federal funding for a COVID-19 isolation centre
November 11, 2020

November 11, 2020 – Brampton

A community-based response to COVID-19 has been essential since the onset of the pandemic as there are very different realities across the country. The Government of Canada has been committed to doing whatever it takes to protect Canadians’ health and jobs, overcome COVID-19, and build an economy that is strong, resilient, and inclusive.

For The Region of Peel, the Federal Government has announced support for measures like isolation housing and is also providing federal support on contact tracing, modelling, and COVID-19 test processing.

This isolation space will be available for people who live in housing that lacks the necessary space to allow for that proper distancing.

Canada’s Minister of Health, Patty Hajdu met with Peel Public Health officials in late September to receive an update and hear about how the Federal government can be a partner. Our Government will continue to work with The Region to ensure they have the tools to respond to the pandemic.

Bramptonians should continue following federal guidance and provincial, territorial, local and regional protocols, to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.

QUOTE:

“Isolation housing is critical, especially in a hotspot like the Region of Peel. The federal government is proud to support this measure and I look forward to continued collaboration to keep Bramptonians safe. We flattened the curve in the spring and I know that we can do it again by working together.”Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South
