Canada’s Fall Economic Statement is good for Bramptonians: MP Sonia Sidhu
November 30, 2020

Yesterday, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, released Supporting Canadians and Fighting COVID-19: Fall Economic Statement 2020.

The Government of Canada’s priority continues to be fighting COVID-19 and protecting Canadians’ health and safety. This plan will position Brampton well in protecting health, jobs and the local economy.

That includes delivering on key priorities including a $1-billion fund to help provinces and territories improve conditions in long-term care. It builds on MP Sonia Sidhu’s advocacy to implement National Standards on long-term care from coast to coast to coast.

MP Sonia Sidhu recognizes the impact that COVID-19 has had on women and through her work as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women has heard the need for a Canada-wide child care system. The federal government is laying the groundwork for this in partnership with provinces, territories and Indigenous peoples.

Furthermore, the Government of Canada is putting in place further support including immediate relief to low and middle-income families with young children by providing up to $1,200 through the Canada Child Benefit for children under the age of 6.

That is just the beginning of the action plan which outlines the Government's fiscal strategy for responding to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and shaping the recovery.

Once the virus is under control, the Government will invest in a growth plan of roughly three to four per cent of GDP, between up to $70 and $100 billion, over three years, to jumpstart Canada’s recovery.

“We are planning an array of meaningful, targeted investments that will help Bramptonians weather this storm, preventing long-term economic effects,” said MP Sonia Sidhu.

Quotes:

“These significant investments will further support Brampton families and businesses as we fight the second wave of the virus. We are planning a resilient, inclusive, and strong future for everyone and today’s economic statement brings with it some transformative new initiatives. I’m confident that Brampton will emerge from this pandemic more innovative and more competitive than ever before.” — Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South
