January 18, 2020 – Brampton - The COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve throughout the country, including in Brampton South. Safe and effective vaccines are crucial in the fight against COVID-19. The Government of Canada is delivering on its commitment to ensure that Canadians have access to these vaccines, as soon as possible.

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, has been signing new agreements for COVID-19 vaccines and treatments that will help keep Canadians and their families safe. 

Last Tuesday, the Prime Minister announced the procurement of 20 million additional vaccine doses. With that, Canada will now have 80 million Pfizer and Moderna vaccine doses delivered to the provinces and territories by the end of the year, and enough doses to vaccinate up to 20 million Canadians between April and June.

In the spring, Canada will shift from phase one of the vaccine rollout from immunizing vulnerable individuals such as long-term care home residents and health care providers to a wider rollout as deliveries become larger and more frequent.

Protecting Canadians from COVID-19 is priority number one. To date, the Federal Government has delivered over 800,000 vaccine doses to the provinces and territories, so they can administer them to Canadians.
