Second Doses Ramp up in Peel as the Federal Government Exceeds Expected Vaccines Deliveries
June 15, 2021

Brampton

With over 73% of eligible Canadians with at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine in their arms, this government has delivered over 31.6 million vaccines across the country. Canada now has a higher percentage of its population with at least one dose than any other country and this government is not slowing down. With enhanced shipments from Moderna, Canada will be receiving over 20 million doses this month alone. As a result of this large supply, Brampton South and other hot spot areas have been able to accelerate second doses. In addition, Canada will have more than enough vaccines by the end of September for all Canadians to be fully vaccinated.

As a Brampton MP and as a Bramptonian, MP Sidhu has seen the devastating impact of the 3 waves of Covid-19 and is just as concerned as her constituents about the increase of the Delta variant. As a member of the Standing Committee of Health, MP Sidhu has strongly advocated for Brampton South to be prioritized for second doses.

Last week in the Standing Committee on Health, she rose to question Peel Region’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Lawrence Loh, about how the Provincial Government plans to prioritize Brampton for second doses as the Delta variant spreads. As determined by scientists and public health officials, vaccinating hotspots like Brampton South is a crucial step in curbing the Delta variant and keeping all Canadians safe. MP Sidhu is committed to making sure the specific needs of her community are met with action at all levels of government as Canada’s vaccination campaign progresses.

That being said, last weekend, MP Sidhu visited the amazing essential workers and volunteers running CAA Centre’s vaccine clinic. CAA Centre is the largest vaccination site in Canada and is proudly located right here in Brampton South. With the capacity to vaccinate over 10 000 people a day, clinics like CAA are helping Bramptonians develop immunity and stay safe.

In more recent news, yesterday, in the Standing Committee on Health, MP Sidhu asked Dr. Mathew Tunis from the Public Health Agency of Canada about the effectiveness of the vaccines offered in Canada against the Delta variant. It was great to hear that the vaccines authorized and used in Canada provide a high level of protection.

MP Sidhu encourages everyone to book their first and second dose appointment as soon as they can. Bramptonians who received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on or before May 9th are now able to book their second.
