More jobs for Brampton youth: MP Sonia Sidhu highlights Canada Summer Jobs funding in Brampton South
May 18, 2022

18 May 2022 – Brampton, Ontario

Young people across Canada, particularly those facing barriers to employment, have been especially affected by the loss of jobs caused by the pandemic. In Brampton South, youth have stepped up to serve their communities in exciting ways.

It shows that the energy and talent of young people in Brampton and from coast to coast to coast is a powerful way to drive our economic recovery. That is why the government is working with employers across the country to help them find meaningful, high-quality jobs.

Today, Sonia Sidhu, the Member of Parliament for Brampton South, on behalf of the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, Marci Ien, announced that more than 600 Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) opportunities are now available for youth in Brampton South.

Over the weekend, MP Sidhu visited Brams United Soccer Club, a recipient of CSJ funding, to hear about how it will be put to use and to drop-in on their practice for boys and girls aged 13 to 14. Critical CSJ funding is helping Brams United deliver  safe, welcoming, and inclusive soccer programs for youth who may become Canada's future soccer stars.

Throughout the summer, young people can find new job opportunities in their community on jobbank.gc.ca/youth and the Job Bank mobile app. More than 140,000 quality CSJ placements are now available across the country for young people between the ages of 15 and 30.

This announcement builds on the government’s ongoing actions taken to support all Canadians, as highlighted in Budget 2022, which is about growing Canada's economy, creating good jobs, and building a Canada where nobody gets left behind. It is also in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 8, which aims to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
