News Release — BRAMPTON, ON – MP Sonia Sidhu, the Member of Parliament for Brampton South, highlighted that under the federal governments agreement with provinces that child care costs would see an average reduction of 50% compared to 2020 levels - effective December 31, 2022.
“As Canadians feel the impact of the rising cost of living, we’re working hard to make life more affordable for families” said MP Sidhu. “For too long, families have faced high monthly child care fees and too few high-quality child care options. With this announcement, we are delivering on our promise to make child care more affordable”.
As a result of the federal governments agreement with provinces, fees will be brought down to an average of $23 per day, which could save families in Ontario up to $6,000 per child per year.
This reduction puts the federal government well on their way to delivering an average of $10-a-day child care by 2026.
Additionally, under the federal agreement the Province will be working towards creating 86,000 new licensed child care spaces by the end of 2026.
