January 9, 2023

News Release – Brampton, Ontario

As the ninth largest city in Canada, Brampton is home to a diverse and growing population. It is a hub of economic activity and as such, federal funding announcements in Brampton have the potential to significantly impact the community.

Today at Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA) in Brampton, Member of Parliament Sonia Sidhu was pleased to highlight almost $90,000 in federal funding to PAMA through the Museums Assistance Program. This federal funding will ensure that they have the resources to continue their work in preserving our local heritage in Brampton and the Region of Peel. The funding to PAMA is in addition to significant federal investments made to the City of Brampton in recent weeks for projects right here in Brampton South.

Federal investments in economic development can stimulate local growth. When we invest in upgrading and building new infrastructure, it creates jobs and helps to attract businesses to the area. This can lead to increased economic activity and a stronger local economy. That is why MP Sidhu was also pleased to highlight that the City of Brampton is receiving more than $1.6 Million in federal funding through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario to retrofit a building to create a community kitchen and food incubator, expand and re-build the Brampton Tennis Club clubhouse, and fund new tourism assets in downtown Brampton.

“We are supporting important economic development projects in Brampton South that will benefit our residents and contribute to our local economic recovery,” said MP Sonia Sidhu. “This new funding will help us continue to position our city as a great place to live, work, play and learn for generations to come,” she said.

For example, the kitchen facilities will provide a space for entrepreneurs to develop and test new food products, as well as to help address food insecurity and promote healthy eating. The renovated Brampton Tennis Club clubhouse will provide a gathering place for members of the community to come together, socialize, and participate in recreational activities. Also while promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, which will have a positive impact on the well-being of the community. Additionally, the clubhouse, and new tourism assets in downtown Brampton will help to create jobs and stimulate the local economy by attracting visitors and supporting the growth of small businesses.

As Brampton continues to recover from COVID-19 and address inflationary pressures, the federal government will continue to work with municipal and provincial partners to support projects that create jobs across the country, and build more resilient communities.
