Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, issued the following statement on Family Day:

Family Day is a chance to recognize and celebrate the importance of family in our lives, spend quality time together, and reflect on the values that bring us together. This Family Day, I want to highlight the crucial role that federal investments into healthcare play in supporting Canadian families.

Access to quality healthcare is essential for the well-being of Bramptonians and their loved ones, which is why this month the federal government has announced more than $196.1 billion dollars over 10 years to bring about real change across Canada and here in our community.

Building on the lessons of the pandemic, we will continue to take action to deliver the best results for patients, support our health care workers, and protect our health care system now and into the future. This will make sure that you and your family have access to the health care that you deserve. 

This is in addition to significant efforts taken to date focused on families, with initiatives such as the Canada Child Benefit, which continues to be central to our efforts to reduce poverty by 50% by 2030. The Canada Child Benefit is tax-free and based on income to provide more support to families who need it most. The benefit is also indexed to inflation to keep pace with the cost of living. For families with young children, we are building a transformational Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care system. Regulated child care fees have already been reduced by an average of 50 per cent, saving families in Brampton South thousands of dollars.
