As the holiday season approaches, MP Sonia Sidhu extends her heartfelt seasons greetings to the residents of Brampton South. Reflecting on the accomplishments and providing updates from the 2024 parliamentary session, MP Sidhu shares her gratitude and best wishes for the community.

As we approach the end of the 2024 parliamentary session, MP Sidhu share important updates from the 2024 Fall Economic Statement (FES).

The safety of Canadians remains a top priority. The FES introduces significant reforms to strengthen community safety, including proposed amendments to the Criminal Code that will impose stricter bail and sentencing laws for repeat offenders involved in crimes like auto theft, break-ins, and arson. These changes aim to ensure justice and prevent harm in our neighborhoods. Additionally, a National Action Plan to combat auto theft has been unveiled, which includes legislative amendments to the Customs Act. This will provide the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) with new powers to inspect goods destined for export, targeting organized crime and reducing theft rates.

Affordable housing remains a pressing concern for many families. The government is taking decisive steps to make homeownership more attainable. The FES includes measures to relax certain mortgage rules, such as increasing the cap on insured mortgages from $1 million to $1.5 million and allowing loans with 30-year terms for first-time buyers and purchasers of newly built homes. These changes aim to reduce financial barriers and make it easier for families to achieve the dream of homeownership. The government continues to prioritize building more affordable homes to meet growing demand, with a target of constructing 4 million homes nationwide.

To support economic growth and address labor shortages, the government is also improving immigration processes. One significant change is the removal of additional points awarded under Express Entry for job offers backed by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This adjustment will enhance fairness and integrity within the system while reducing potential instances of LMIA fraud, making Canada’s immigration system more equitable for skilled workers.

Our government remains dedicated to creating a safer, more affordable, and inclusive Canada. By addressing public safety concerns, improving housing affordability, and facilitating immigration, we are laying the groundwork for a brighter future for Brampton South and for all Canadians.

"As we celebrate this holiday season, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to each of you and your families," said MP Sonia Sidhu. "May this festive period bring you joy, peace, and cherished moments with your loved ones."
