Sonia Sidhu has been the Member of Parliament for Brampton South since 2015. With her background in healthcare, she has shaped policies on childcare, dental care, mental health, and diabetes. She has been a strong advocate for public transit, infrastructure, and economic growth in Brampton. She has led the fight against diabetes in Canada as the Chair of All-Party Diabetes Caucus. Her Private Members’ Bill C-237 established the National Framework for Diabetes, leading to free diabetes medication coverage under the National Universal Pharmacare Bill C-64.
About Sonia Sidhu
Sonia Sidhu serves as the Member of Parliament for Brampton South, having been elected on October 19, 2015, and subsequently re-elected on October 21, 2019, and September 20, 2021. Prior to her political career, she dedicated nearly two decades to the healthcare sector, leveraging this experience to advocate for continuous improvements in the healthcare system. As a member of the Standing Committee on Health, MP Sidhu has been instrumental in shaping policies on universal childcare, dental care, and mental health. In her role as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, she has amplified the voices of Brampton residents, focusing on the empowerment of women and youth. A strong advocate for the diabetes community, MP Sidhu chairs the All-Party Diabetes Caucus and has represented Canada on the international stage. Her Private Members’ Bill C-237 established the National Framework for Diabetes, which paved the way for free diabetes medication coverage under the National Universal Pharmacare Bill C-64, marking a significant milestone in Canada’s healthcare journey. Since her election, MP Sidhu has tirelessly worked on numerous initiatives to enhance public transit, infrastructure, economic growth, and job creation in Brampton. She resides in Brampton South with her husband Gurjit, twin daughters Arshia and Amrit, and her son Akash.
